What's Where - Rutgers

The University

You probably are aware of the fact that Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is a huge and complex organization with outposts in places such as Sandy Hook and the Pinelands, in addition to the major Newark, Camden, and New Brunswick campuses. You are one of over 12,000 graduate students, in a university of over 50,000 students (see http://ruweb.rutgers.edu/aboutru/ataglance.shtml for more information). So, it is understandable if you sometimes get the feeling that you are a mere cipher in a vast, impersonal bureaucratic machine that would just as soon crunch you for breakfast than answer a simple question!

While it may not make you feel any better, let me assure you that Rutgers is trying to become more "user friendly," and has made great strides in the last decade. Attention to the quality of "customer services" was in evidence in our own building until a recent relocation, of the University's Organizational Development and Leadership, formerly Quality and Communication Improvement program. Nevertheless, the sheer size of the place can foil good intentions, and so it is wise to be prepared for some hassles. The information in this section is intended to help you find your way about and to connect with answers to your questions and solutions to your problems.
