The Moving Image Collection (MIC) is an integrated online catalog of moving images distributed in various organizations in the United States. The three-year MIC (2002-2004) project, under the leadership of Grace Angnew, has been funded by the National Science Foundation and is being developed collaboratively by several institutes, including the Rutgers University Libraries, Georgia Institute of Technology Interactive Media Technology Center, and University of Washington University Computing. Essentially, the MIC has three portals, namely Public Portal, Archives Portal, and Science Goes to the Movies. Each portal targets different user groups. Organization Directory Database and Union Catalog are seamlessly integrated to provide essential information to the portals.

Being led by Dr. Tefko Saracevic, the evaluation team will conduct a survey, an interview and a laboratory test for each portal of MIC. The goal of these evaluation studies is to examine how usable each portal is with respect to content and function aspects. The evaluation results will be used to inform system developers and to assess the performance of the MIC. In addition to the individual portal, the integrated MIC interface will be evaluated as well in terms of how the interface might help different user groups retrieve their desired information on moving images.
