Ninth International Congress on Women in Music
- April 27-30, 1995, Vienna, Austria
This congress is the 9th in its series of International
Congresses for the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM).
Two workshops have been planned for the Congress in which women in the most diverse musical
careers are given the chance to broaden their understanding of feminist musicology through intensive
interactive discussions with each other.
In comparison with other disciplines, feminist approaches in musicology are relatively new. The first
step was the rediscovery of historical women composers, whose works were found in archives and
performed again. First successes can be seen in that more and more compositions by, for example,
Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel or Clara Wieck-Schumann, are taught in the conservatories and are
becoming part of concert repertoires.
