Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do to participate?

Participating requires four steps:

  1. Participate in a faculty-advised research or independent study project during the 2007-2008 academic year.

  2. Write an abstract that describes your work (no more than 250 words) and give your project a title. Submit both using the online registration form, which is here. You must register by March 31, 2008.

  3. Design, produce and display a poster that describes and explains your work. You will be given a 36 x 48 inch tri-fold poster board for your use. Look for an example of a good poster design in the SCILS lobby in March.

  4. Attend the event. This involves standing with your poster and talking with people who are interested in your work.

What do I get for participating?

  1. Recognition for your hard work and scholarship from faculty and administrators from SCILS, the larger Rutgers community, and other students..

  2. Written feedback on your poster from responding faculty.

  3. An award certificate and an award for participation.

  4. Your name and abstract will be published in the event agenda and on the event website.

  5. You will gain from the experience of preparing a display of your work and presenting it in public.

  6. And you can add your participation to your resume.

  7. And - entry in a raffle for an iPod.

Who can participate?

All undergraduate students registered in a SCILS program are eligible.

What types of projects are eligible?

Individual and group projects undertaken during the 2007-2008 academic year are eligible. If you are submitting a group project, please submit only one registration (abstract and title). If your group has more than three members we will contact you for information about the other members.

I don't know how to make a poster - what should I do?

You will be given a 36 x 48 inch tri-fold poster board for your use. Look for an example of a good poster design in the SCILS lobby in March. You can also ask your project advisor to help you plan your poster.

I am not sure whether my project qualifies - what should I do?
