October 4 Traditional Literature Students read folktale and fairy tale for mythic elements For additional notions of myth, see MIRCEA ELIADE’S STRUCTURE OF MYTHS , and BRYAN S. RENNIE. (I will supply additional notes: wip); see also CUPID AS MONSTER HUSBAND
October 11 Traditional Literature Students read folktale and fairy tale for mythic elements Discussions will bring into focus how myths are transposed into traditional literature, and how they impart meaning to it. And see IMAGES OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

October 25 Puritan Literature Students will read The Prodigal Daughter and respond to FOCUS QUESTIONS This section will show how modern religious material borrows the "true story par excellence" and its archetypal elements to underwrite its own truths.
