Yes, this is a valid
interpretation!
Color. Miss Rumphius is dressed all
in black and stands out against her surroundings. She is darker
than anything else in the painting and your eye is drawn to her
first.
Placement. By placing her above the
majority of the children, the viewer perceives her to be more
important. Notice how Miss Rumphius sits regally on her throne
like chair and officiates over the room.
Linear perspective. All the children
are looking at Miss Rumphius and the lines from their eyes converge
on her. This is a technique that also adds visual unity to a picture.
