After a lifetime of school, we graduate and enter the real world only to realize much of what we’ve learned and become used to no longer applies. In fact, there’s a lot we never learned, quite a bit we need to unlearn, and an impossible expectation that we should magically be able to make sense of “the real world” overnight. We realize we've gotten used to the comfort of a syllabus; teachers with office hours; advisors with, well, advice; and GPAs; all to let us know exactly what we need to accomplish to be successful. But when we leave school, we leave those comforts behind, too. To help give you a leg up and prevent you from going through the same kind of culture shock we experienced when we graduated into the real world, the Professional Development Studies Office is offering a six-week program entitled Test Drive the Real World. This program meets on Sundays starting March 30, 2008 through May 4, 2008 from 1:30pm to 5:30pm in the SCILS computer labs on the first floor (Rm. 119). Practical in nature, the workshop series is specifically designed to give you hands-on experience with real world issues and tasks like: Running effective meetings
Designing basic web pages using common software and strategies
Understanding group dynamics and workplace politics
Handling workplace conflicts professionally and successfully
Using social networking tools (to make a podcast, a wiki, a YouTube video, etc.)
- Knowing how and where to quickly find information
So whether you are just starting your college adventures, about to enter the real world for the first time, or are already "out there" looking for some help making sense of what you’ve found, Test Drive the Real World will give you the support, training, and insider information you need to make the transition from school to life as easy as possible. To maximize the highly interactive nature of the workshop, seating is limited to 40 people. Cost for the six-week workshop series is only $750, which covers the cost of 24 hours of in-class expert instruction and software training, all course materials, and six weeks of access to our communication and software specialists. You'll be hard pressed to find a deal like that in the real world! Contact us for more information. Email: mandrich@rutgers.edu Tel: 732-932-7169 Register today and get ready to take life for a spin!
