Cherry Named Fifth New Jersey Media Group Fellow
Nancy Cherry, co-chief of The Record's News copydesk,
has been selected as NJMG's next teaching fellow at Rutgers University.
Nancy will start her fellowship in September, teaching a class in
journalism
and taking, for free, a class related to her work at The Re cord.
Nancy arrived at The Record in early 1994 after working at The News Tribune, which was owned by The Record at the time. She served many roles, but predominantly acted as liaison editor as the two newspapers began to synergize many of the Features sections. In 1995, she moved to Sports and spent most of the next five years as copy desk chief. She joined the News in late 1999 as co-copy desk chief and has held that post since then.
At The News Tribune, Nancy was a municipal, city, general assignment and county reporter before turning to editing. She worked as a layout editor and assignment editor, helped establish the original copy desk at the paper and later served as Features Editor.
Nancy is an alumna of the University of Delaware, where she majored in secondary education and social sciences. She also worked as a public affairs specialist in the USCGR (Coast Guard Reserve).
Nancy will be NJMG's fifth fellow at Rutgers. Previous NJMG fellows were Herb Jackson, Tom Davis, Scott Muller and Jan Barry.
