  • Jerome Aumente Publishes Book on New Jersey Newspapers' History and Digital Future
    "From Ink on Paper to the Internet: Past Challenges and Future Transformations for New Jersey's Newspapers" has been published by New Jersey Heritage Press. The book chronicles the development of newsppaers in New Jersey from the 18th century and explores the challenges they face in the digital age. (June 2, 2007)
  • Jerome Aumente Conducts Journalism Workshops in Serbia
    Jerome Aumente recently completed two weeks of reporting workshops for Serbian journalists on business, financial and economic reporting in Belgrade and Nis sponsored by the U.S. State Department, the American Embassy and the International Broadcasting Bureau-Voice of America. (Sept. 25, 2006)
  • Jerome Aumente Develops
    Programs for Arab and American Journalists

    Following a series of successful seminars he conducted in which top Arab and American journalists exchanged experiences in covering major international issues in Iraq and the Middle East, Jerome Aumente, Rutgers University Professor Emeritus is designing an Internet and Exchange program to build a permanent communication bridge among journalists and universities worldwide.   • Nancy Cherry Named Fifth New Jersey Media Group Fellow
    Nancy Cherry, co-chief of The Record's News copydesk, has been selected as NJMG's next teaching fellow at Rutgers University. Nancy will start her fellowship in September, teaching a class in journalism and taking, for free, a class related to her work at The Record. (July 9, 2005)
  • The Dan Rather/Fox News Effect: What Local Newspaper Reporters & Editors Must Do To Cope With The Public’s Distrust of “The Media”
    The public's growing perception of bias in the national media is trickling down to the community level and creating a new challenge for local newspaper reporters and editors, says Scott Muller, news editor atthe Herald News of Passaic County. Muller said the idea for his talk, to be on Feb. 16 at SCILS, came out his experience and conversations he's had over the years with colleagues covering local issues. (Feb. 11, 2005)
  • Jan Barry Named North Jersey Media Group Journalist-in-Residence for Spring 2005 Semester at Rutgers
    Staff writer for The Record Jan Barry has been named the North Jersey Media Group Journalist-in-Residence for Spring 2005. After serving in Vietnam, Barry became a peace activist and has had his poetry published in several publications. He is the author of Earth Songs: New & Selected Poems and A Citizen's Guide to Grassroots Campaigns. Barry will be teaching news reporting and writing at SCILS on Monday nights during the spring semester. More information on Barry can be found at http://www.janbarry.net/. (Nov. 30, 2004)
  • Veteran Journalist Named Fellow for Fall Semester at Rutgers
    Back-to-school season this year will find three North Jersey Media Group Daily Division staffers at the head of their classes – teaching them, that is. Scott Muller, news editor of the Herald News, was selected as the company’s Journalist-in-Residence at Rutgers University. Scott will teach an undergraduate journalism course at the New Brunswick campus and select a work-related course tuition-free. (Aug. 31, 2004)
  • Continuing Education Project for Journalists in South Africa Begins
    Based on a recommendation from CNN South Africa bureau chief Charlayne Hunter-Gault, the Journalism Resources Institute is developing a Continuing Education Project for Journalists in South Africa that could lay a foundation for journalists from throughout Africa to participate in continuing education seminars and workshops. (April 22, 2004)
  • Brasil Awarded Educator in Newsroom Fellowship
    Antonio Brasil, visiting faculty member and JRI research fellow, was awarded a Radio and Television News Director Foundation Educator in the Newsroom Fellowship in which he will spend four weeks this summer in a television newsroom to study what new technologies they are using and to re-acquaint himself with a TV newsroom. (April 11, 2004)
  • Child Health and Development Project Will Engage Trenton Teenagers as Fledgling Journalists and Communicators
    An ambitious effort to provide all Trenton infants and young children with maximum health care in the crucial, early childhood development years--and to give newspaper and broadcast journalists additional background and skills to cover this important issue throughout New Jersey--enters a new training phase with a journalism skills workshop for Trenton high school students to help tell the story.
