The Evolution of NYPL's Digital Projects - Lessons Learned
Barabara Taranto, Director of the Digital Library Program at New York Public Library, will describe the trajectory of the Library's involvement with digital projects from experimental ad hoc efforts to a sustainable, integrated library function. Ms. Taranto is responsible for the NYPL's Web accessible 325,000 image database, the National Digital Newspaper program, the development of the metadata for providing access to all the digital collections, and more. LIS Department Chair, Professor Michael Lesk, will provide a broader perspective on the development and current state of digital libraries, including the massive projects to digitize the holdings of major research libraries.
