Public Speaking Competition for Communication Majors
Think you have what it takes to deliver a great speech? Compete with fellow students for cash prizes up to $300!
Lambda Pi Eta, the Communication Honor Society, is sponsoring a Public Speaking Competition on TUESDAY, MARCH 4th at 7:30 pm in the SCILS Student Lounge.
To be eligible to compete:
- You must be a Communication major
- You must submit a short abstract outlining your speech
Speeches should be prepared in advance and be about 3-5 minutes. Topics may include, but are not limited to: - An ethical dilemma that relates to the field of communication (i.e., using the Internet to plagiarize)
- The role of communication in interpersonal relationships
- The importance of communication in everyday life
- The role of the media in voicing student concerns over the changes at Rutgers
- Topic of your choice
Abstracts are due by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18th to Dr. Bolden's mailbox or to a Lambda Pi Eta Executive Board Member. Please include your name, expected graduation date and email address with your abstract. If you are selected you will be notified by email no later than February 21st with further details. Those who are selected will present their speech before a panel of judges and audience on Tuesday March 4th at 7:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.
Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place speakers in each class: - Ann Bussing Speaking Award for Seniors - $300 & $200
- Irving Upson Speaking Award for Juniors - $300 & $200
- Myron Smith Speaking Award for Sophomores - $125 & $75
