Bio Text:

Hartmut B. Mokros is Professor of Communication and Associate Dean of the School of Communication, Information, and Library Studies.  He received his PhD from the Department of Behavioral Sciences at the University of Chicago as a student of the Committee on Cognition and Communication.  His research and teaching interests are in language and social interaction, family communication, children’s mental health, especially communicational perspective on depression and suicidal behavior, qualitative and microanalytic research methods, and social science theory.  His major publications include Identity Matters: Communication-Based Explorations and Explanations (2003, Hampton); Interaction and Identity (1996, Transaction); Interaction Structure and Strategy (1985, Cambridge), coauthored with Duncan, Denny, Kanki and Fiske; and, The Children’s Depression Rating Scale (1999, Western Psychological Services) with Poznanski.  At Rutgers, he is former director of SCILS Doctoral Program in Communication, Information and Library Studies(2005-2007), former director of the Master of Communication and Information Studies (MCIS) Program (2001-2004; 1995-1997), and former chair of the Department of Communication (1996-2000).
