Just wondering... Fertility Politics

About a month ago the following article appeared in the New York Times, describing the boom of womb surrogacy as valid employement option in India.  http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/10/world/asia/10surrogate.html The implicit customer/consumer in the transaction is a white upper to middle class western woman. The product is... what? Just Wondering... Adult Entertainment and the Media Boom

Is there something special about the adult entertainment industry (aside from the obvious funding) which makes an especially unique and prolific breeding ground for new media delivery growth? Simple monetary resources do not explain these abilities, media delivery of sexual content is not a necessity for life. Food is. Have we made similar leaps in food chemistry, and delivery technologies?
