Description: Technological innovation, computerization, and electronic information are associated with dilemmas, value conflicts, and choices surrounding the scholarly, personal, and professional use of information. Addresses social relationships, technological utopianism, societal control, vulnerability of information systems, and ethical responsibilities.
Synopsis: Course Objectives and Organization This course provides an overview of major themes, methods of analysis and practical implications concerning the relationship between information technology and social behavior. The class will include elements of lecture, seminar discussion, in-class exercises, weekly readings and out-of class assignments and a major term project with intermediate deadlines. Each student will have the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding through writing, presentation and facilitation of class material. The topics in class will be explored from both practical and theoretical perspectives with an emphasis on applications.
