Professor John V. Pavlik published: "Video Games Beat Hollywood for Vast Income," in Television Quarterly, volume 38, number 4, pages 3-13.

Professor Ya-Ling Lu is the winner of the 2008 ASIST SIG USE Elfreda A. Chatman Research Proposal Award ($1000). The purpose of the award is to recognize the best research proposal that falls within the scope of information behavior. Her proposal, "Children's Information Behaviors in Coping with Daily Life," aims to explore the role information plays in children's coping with their daily-life, non-clinical problems. From this perspective, dimensions of information behavior can shed meaning on the coping context that members of the LIS world consider relevant or irrelevant.

Krista White , Melody Townley , , Kerri Hueftle
Krista White, MLIS graduate (May '08) led a team of researchers who gave presentations at the SENCER Institute in San Jose, California on August 9-10. SENCER is the NSF-funded center for Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities. Ms.White and ITI majors Melody Townley and Kerri Hueftle gave a formal presentation and a poster session on the digital libraries research and information architecture project on which they worked with Professor Claire McInerney during the spring semester 2008. Ph.D. Program in Communication, Information and Library Studies
Jill Campaiola, the recipient of a fellowship for non-consortium participants, attended the European Media and Communication Summer School in Tartu, Estonia in August. The program is organized by a consortium of European universities and provides structural and individuated Ph.D. support for youth scholars, through feedback seminars, workshops and lectures.

Professor Jenny Mandelbaum presented a communication workshop entitled: “Communication Tips for Student Leaders” for the Hillel Leadership Council Retreat, on August 30, 2008.

Professor Carol Gordon presented: "I Hate to Read, or Do I" at the annual conference of the International Association of School Librarianship, at the University of Berkeley, California.
Professor Marie L. Radford was the program chair for the conference: “The Reference Renaissance: Current and Future Trends” which was held in Denver, CO on August 4-5, 2008. The conference drew over 500 people from 42 states and 8 countries. At the conference, Professor Radford also was featured as a plenary speaker on the panel: “Theory Meets Practice: Educators and Directors Talk” and presented a competitive paper with Lynn Silipigni Connaway: “Getting Better All the Time: Improving Communication and Accuracy in Virtual Reference”.

Professor James E. Katz was appointed to the International Scientific Advisory Board of the Danish Research Centre on Education and Advanced Media Materials, at the University of Southern Denmark.
