Woodward on journalism: "It's the best profession."

If you were not one of the hundreds of people who came to hear Bob Woodward this afternoon, you missed his response to a journalism student who asked for advice about going into his field.  "It's the best profession," he told her.   Why?  He noted that every day is interesting when you work as a journalist, because when things get uninteresting, you don't have to cover them anymore and you get to go to the next interesting thing.

I hope this inspires the hundred or so students who were just admitted to the Journalism and Media Studies major this week, as SCILS completed our admissions cycle for Spring 2008.  Congratulations to them, and to the almost two hundred new Communication majors and two dozen new Information Technology and Informatics majors.
